Jesus Was Fully God And Fully Human

New Way to Be Human

John 1:1, 14. In this season we often believe “No one knows what it’s like to be me.” But the incarnation assures us that God is closer to you than you are to yourself. Or the way Augustine, the 4th-century bishop put it: “You were more inward to me than my most inward part…” - Augustine, Confessions 3.6.11. And so, whatever we go through, and especially when our backs are against the wall, if we are in Christ, he is there with us.

From Series: "New Way to Be Human"

God is self-existent, reigning on high as the sovereign of this world, completely set apart in his holiness, all-powerful, all-knowing, perfect, totally good, and invisible. BUT...when the fullness of time had come, the infinite became finite. The invisible took on flesh. The Sovereign One humbled himself. The holy one became acquainted with sin. The Son of God became the Son of Man, and dwelt among us. Jesus was fully God and fully human. He was rejected by his own family, abandoned by his best friends, and felt the sting of being forsaken by God the Father himself. He was anxious and fearful. He was oppressed and depressed. He wept at the loss of a friend and became frustrated at his disciples’ ignorance. He seethed with anger at the injustices of the Roman Empire and the hypocrisy of the institutionalized religion of the day. Jesus was fully human. And it’s through his humanity that humanity can have its back against the wall, the whole world crumble around us, and experience the loss of all that we hold dear...and not fall apart. And not just keep from falling apart, but be fully human ourselves.
